Flaxseed oil health benefits

Flaxseed oil s about 7% linolenic acid and about 17% linoleic acid. Linolenic acid can be converted into eicosapentaenoic acid a(EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), fatty acids that are precursors to anti-inflammatory and antiatherogenic prostaglandins.

Recent research indicates one of the benefits of flaxseed oil is its ability to reduced blood pressure, lower cholesterol levels for the "bad" variety, and offer effects of both the estrogen and anti-estrogen variety.

Alpha linolenic aid is a member of a family of omega-3 fatty acids. Alpha linolenic aid may reduce the risk of heart disease by improving the function and integrity of arteries that carry blood throughout the body and to the brain.

Flaxseed also appears to have some estrogen-related effects as well as anti-estrogen effects. As a result, it is believed that another one of the possible benefits of flaxseed oil is protection again certain types of prostate and breast cancers.

Flaxseed has also been recently studied for any possible benefits of in the prevention of kidney damage in individuals suffering from systemic lupus erythematosus.
